Position Summary:
This is a position for a law firm associate, consulting professional, or former government official motivated to stay at the cutting edge of financial services regulation, innovation, and public policy (senior analyst or associate), or for an entry-level individual seeking to work in this space (analyst). The role focuses on policy issues related to asset managers, banks, broker-dealers, exchanges, and other financial services firms such as fintech companies, as well as cryptocurrencies, swaps, and investment products. This position will monitor and develop insights on regulatory actions impacting the financial sector. Salary is generous and commensurate with experience.

Depending on level of experience and qualifications, responsibilities may include:

  • Providing written analyses of the impact of financial market policy decisions on Patomak’s clients, focusing on how clients’ strategic business goals could be harmed or advanced by particular policy changes or political shifts.

  • Develop weekly updates for clients on Congressional, CFPB, CFTC, FDIC, Fed, OCC, Treasury, and SEC policy developments, decisions, and trends, and performing ad-hoc research on various financial regulatory trends in the U.S. and globally.

  • Interacting with clients on a day-to-day basis and responding to special requests.

  • Provide project management support, including drafting reports and presentations, editing reports for format, grammar, spelling, footnote citations and consistency; maintaining electronic files; drafting and circulating memoranda from meetings with clients and otherwise; and other tasks commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

  • An understanding of the U.S. financial regulatory system, particularly with regards to CFTC and SEC rulemaking processes. Familiarity with European and/or East Asian financial regulatory environments is a plus.

  • Experience producing analyses of potential business impacts brought about by policy changes impacting the financial sector.

  • 1-5 years of experience at a consultancy, law firm, financial company, trade association, think tank, government agency, or Capitol Hill. Experience in both the private sector and the public sector is preferred. Exceptional academic credentials can substitute for experience.

  • In addition to a desire to support Patomak’s strategic regulatory advice work, a desire to develop the skills to also support our compliance work, which entails conducting mock regulatory examinations, developing internal controls, conducting gap assessments of compliance and governance programs, and conducting controls and data testing.

  • All-hands-on-deck mentality benefiting a collaborative work environment.

  • Pro-active and curious; ability to quickly get up to speed on new topics and regulatory priorities.

  • Strong writing, editing, and copy-editing experience.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Advanced degree preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Positive attitude and desire to learn.
