Regina Thoele
Senior Advisor
Ms. Thoele brings decades of experience in the listed derivatives markets and through her various roles at National Futures Association (NFA), including leading its key regulatory oversight program. She has vast knowledge of the regulatory framework surrounding the listed derivatives and swaps markets.
Ms. Thoele began her career at the then newly formed NFA, eventually taking on the role of Senior Vice President of NFA’s largest regulatory department. Over her forty-year career at NFA, she played key roles in developing the regulatory oversight programs for futures commission merchants and other intermediaries, as well as retail foreign exchange dealers and swap dealers. Ms. Thoele was instrumental in moving NFA’s examination programs to relying on risk-based models to determine examination and ongoing monitoring priorities. She spearheaded several strategic initiatives to ensure that NFA remained at the forefront of the derivatives industry.
In her role overseeing NFA’s key regulatory department, she developed strong working relationships with staff at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), Securities and Exchange Commission, and other non-domestic regulators. This experience makes her well positioned to advise clients during their interactions with regulators and to help advocate for more efficient and effective regulatory solutions.
Ms. Thoele is viewed as an industry expert and regularly speaks at industry conferences and other compliance-related forums regarding the state of the industry and current regulatory topics. She has provided various training programs to federal agencies and criminal authorities and has served as an expert witness in a CFTC matter.
Ms. Thoele received her B.S. in finance from Indiana University-Kelly School of Business. She also maintains various certifications, including Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional through the NASD (FINRA) Institute at The Wharton School, Certified Fraud Examiner through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, as well as a Series 3 license and successful completion of NFA’s swap proficiency requirements.
