Position Summary:
This position is designed for undergraduate students interested in exploring private practice accounting at a cutting-edge consulting firm. In working at Patomak, individuals will improve upon their understanding of fundamental business practices, accounting, accounts payable and receivable functions, expense reporting, internal controls, state and local tax, and more. Interns have the opportunity to explore the accounting and internal control practices of a growing firm and gain valuable workplace skills for longer-term career success. The work will be instructive for any undergraduate seeking experience in accounting and other company operations.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting the cash disbursements function: supporting expense reporting, accounts payable, local taxation, and vendor management.
- Assisting the cash receipts function: invoicing function with reviewing invoices to prepare them to be sent to clients, and booking invoices and payments.
- Data entry and analysis in time entry and accounting software.
- Creating and maintaining Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for taxes, data migrations, lease requirements, and other functions.
- Performing bank reconciliations, historical data audits, and other essential tasks in the accounting cycle.
- Providing accounting and financial management support, including drafting and editing reports and presentations; creating and reconciling bookkeeping journal entries; assisting managers during the invoice review and editing processes; and completing other tasks commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Other general accounting tasks and special projects.
Skills and Qualifications:
- At least one year of completed undergraduate course work. Coursework in accounting, finance, information management systems, and similar subjects is preferred.
- Recommended minimum GPA of a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- An all hands on deck attitude and a willingness to learn novel. information and take on new projects, as befits a collaborative work environment.
- Eagerness to serve the “internal client” of the company and our management.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Positive attitude and desire to learn.
- Pro-active and curious; able to get up to speed quickly on new topics.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct and Microsoft SharePoint preferred but not required.
- Experience handling sensitive information preferred but not required.
