Job Title: Communications Intern
Job Type: Full or Part Time (at least 25 hours/week in person)
Location: Washington, D.C. (in person!)

Patomak is looking for undergraduate or graduate students interested in expanding their experience in marketing, communications, and public relations alongside Patomak’s services surrounding financial services regulation, innovation, and public policy. While working at Patomak, individuals will increase their overall knowledge of how financial markets operate and are regulated. Interns receive the opportunity to investigate different portions of the financial sector and gain valuable workplace skills for longer-term career success. Communications interns are exposed to valuable opportunities to interact with members of the press, write content, contribute to business development, and work side-by-side with communications professionals.

Overview of Job Duties:
- Assist with the development of marketing and business development materials, both digitally and in print.
- Follow the news cycle to make content recommendations.
- Develop and raise ideas for new marketing opportunities across the firm’s practice areas.
- Plan media interviews for TV and radio and coordinate podcast placements.
- Draft press releases and support reporter outreach.
- Track relevant industry events and speaking opportunities.
- Assist with webinar production and other new forms of content.
- Research various financial sector trends in the United States and globally.
- Improve graphics, designs, and overall branding.
- Monitor and summarize actions taken by financial regulators related to financial markets and new technologies.
- Provide project management support, including drafting and editing reports and presentations and editing client deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate, graduate, or recent graduate with coursework in communications, PR, or an adjacent field.
- Preferred: Prior internship experience at a federal regulator, financial services company, thinktank, or on Capitol Hill.
- Applicant must be able to pass a background check.
- GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced proficiency in writing, researching, and editing, with strong PowerPoint and Excel skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to quickly get up to speed on new topics, regulatory priorities, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to interpret legislation, regulations, and government reports.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and deliver a quality product.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced individual and small team environment.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and grow effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and proactive in one’s own education and career progression.
- “All-hands-on-deck” mentality befitting a collaborative work environment.
- Positive attitude and desire to learn.
Salary Range:
$18/hr – $35/hr
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
