Patomak Senior Advisor Marshall Lux’s New Harvard Kennedy School Paper on “Buy Now, Pay Later” Companies Examines Risks and Regulatory Options
Patomak Global Partners Senior Advisor Marshall Lux co-authored a new working paper with Bryan Epps of the Harvard Kennedy School that takes a close look at the “Buy Now, Pay Later” sector. Despite the significant growth in recent years of BNPL companies, they are far less regulated than similar entities. Lux and Epps write that to “support sustainable growth of BNPL in the US, greater transparency is needed for consumers, investors, lenders, and regulators.” The paper explores the implications of BNPL uncertainties with a focus on consumer risk, options for self-regulation, and recommendations for regulatory and policy intervention.
